KAL Group is committed to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives that create positive community impact and foster sustainable development
Sean Walsh, KAL Group CEO, optimistically shares: “We are guided by a responsibility to operate ethically and sustainably. Community initiatives align with our GOLD objectives of growth, optimisation, leveraging culture and diversity, and digital transformation, which are embedded in our daily operational activities across the business.”
KAL Group’s ESG focus areas centre around education, food security, renewable energy, and the development of small-scale farmers. These priorities reflect the company’s dedication to leveraging its resources to drive positive change in the regions it serves. For example, Agrimark’s Harvesting Hope focuses on supporting small- scale farmers and leveraging its client network to help reduce food waste and address hunger. Through Rise Against Hunger, employees get involved in providing nutritious meals for local ECD centres in vulnerable communities.

Education and youth development through KAL Academy, KAL Trust, and the KAL bursary programme are key to KAL’s social impact initiatives. These initiatives aim to address challenges like economic growth, poverty, and community resilience, and the beneficiaries’ achievements demonstrate the programmes’ many successes.
“We are proud of the exceptional performance of our students this year. Aimee Farmer, from La Rochelle High School, achieved gold at the Western Cape Virtual Eisteddfod, and cum laude for her English monologue at the Paarl Valley Eisteddfod. KAL Academy alumnus, Wayne Mansfield, was appointed to the Citrus Growers Association’s Transformation Development Chamber, and Sydney Claassen hosted popular farmer days. These achievements highlight how our programmes foster confidence, collaboration, and lasting community connections,” says Barend Sulvester, Senior Manager: Sustainability.
KAL’s commitment to ESG reflects its core values of CARE and is a powerful driver of solutions that create long-term impact.
“At KAL Group, our purpose – powering growth from farm to fork, whilst ensuring stakeholders are better off because we exist – guides our approach to sustainability and social impact. As a shared value brand, we are deeply committed to creating long-term value that benefits our business, employees and communities. Our investments in education, community development, food security and environmental sustainability are designed to drive business growth, foster resilience and drive meaningful change,” says Tasneem Sulaiman-Bray, Director: Corporate Affairs.
Herewith an overview of the impact achieved, showcasing the positive strides made in key ESG areas in F24. Continued commitment to these initiatives is driving sustainable growth and community development across all the regions in which KAL Group operates.
